Our featured International Student alumni for July is Julia Grant from the Mediterranean country of Gibraltar. A Web Design certificate course graduate, Julia is a designer and print industry professional who loves to use bold, high impact colors in her designs.
Julia got the perfect large-scale platform for her talents when she was asked to create concert promotion designs last year for the Gibraltar Summer Nights festival, a series of outdoor evening events that take place twice each week throughout the summer months.
The stage banner evolved out of a series of event flyers Julia was asked to create, working with event sponsors. To attract concert-goers and stand out in the perpetually sunshine of the Mediterranean, the posters, tickets, and banner combine bold typography with a fresh summer palette and eye-catching lighting effects and patterns.
As Julia comments on her approach: “The use of bright colours and sea but I felt that representing the idea in a more abstract form and implementing swirls and flourishes would add movement and a modern twist which would be appropriate for the younger generations attending the event.”
